FAIRRATE CANADA MEDIA KIT Updated: September 12, 2026 Website https://www.fairratecanada.ca/ Media contact Andy Atchison andy@fairratecanada.ca Founder Andy Atchison is the Edmonton-based founder and operator of FairRate Canada. Do not describe him as a mortgage broker, mortgage agent, financial advisor, or source of borrower-specific mortgage advice. Approved one-sentence description FairRate Canada is an independent, consumer-paid educational resource that helps Canadian homeowners compare a supported 3-year or 5-year fixed mortgage renewal offer with dated, same-term public market context before signing. Approved long description FairRate Canada provides a free initial checker and optional written educational reports for supported Canadian 3-year and 5-year fixed mortgage renewal offers. It compares the homeowner's stated offer with fresh public Canadian same-term context when a usable source is available, then explains scheduled-payment context and questions to review before signing. FairRate is paid by consumers, does not arrange mortgages, and does not sell mortgage inquiries to lenders or brokers. Current products and pricing - Free 3-Year and 5-Year Fixed Checker: CA$0 - Rate Fairness Report: CA$24 - Full Renewal Decision Report: CA$49 Current supported scope Canadian 3-year and 5-year fixed mortgage renewal offers. Variable-rate and other-term offers are outside the current checker scope and should not be compared with a different-term reference. Why a written renewal offer merits review A renewal is a decision point involving the offered rate, term, payment frequency, fees, product features, and switching considerations. FairRate's narrow role is to help a homeowner place the written supported fixed-term offer beside dated, same-term public comparison context and identify questions to review before signing. This does not establish that another rate is available or recommend that the homeowner accept, negotiate, or switch. Federal consumer renewal guidance https://www.canada.ca/en/financial-consumer-agency/services/mortgages/renew-mortgage.html Current external renewal context CMHC reported on May 20, 2026 that 35% of surveyed recent mortgage consumers who had renewed said interest-rate changes increased their financial pressure, with mortgage payments increasing by an average of CA$375 per month. Source: https://www.cmhc-schl.gc.ca/media-newsroom/news-releases/2026/cmhc-2026-mortgage-consumer-survey Limit: This is external CMHC survey context, not FairRate proprietary data. The survey was conducted in January 2026 among more than 4,100 recent mortgage consumers who had renewed, refinanced, or purchased in the prior 18 months. CMHC's release does not state the renewal-only subsample size. Do not generalize the subgroup result to all Canadian homeowners. How to report FairRate's benchmark - Use the value and "as of" date displayed on the live methodology page at the time of publication. - Describe it as public Canadian 5-year fixed comparison context, not a lender offer, market average, approval, or guaranteed available rate. - Link to the methodology and preserve its source/freshness limitations. - Do not compare variable-rate or other-term offers with the 5-year fixed reference. Live methodology and dated comparison context https://www.fairratecanada.ca/methodology Methodology version and reproduction Current published methodology version checked September 2, 2026: 2026-09-01.1. To reproduce a reported comparison, record: - the benchmark source and benchmark "as of" date - the date and time the live source was retrieved - methodology version 2026-09-01.1 - the same supported offer inputs used in the comparison A later methodology version or benchmark observation may produce a different result. Any eventual findings must show the sample size, collection period, supported offer type, methodology, and limitations. They must be described as a voluntary, non-representative sample, not as verified lender rate sheets or a picture of all Canadian homeowners. Lender data provenance Controlled lender categories began for new research submissions on August 25, 2026. Earlier valid submissions without a lender category are excluded from lender-level analysis rather than assigned retroactively. “Other lender / credit union” remains pooled and is not attributed to a named institution. Any future lender-level release must disclose its eligible sample size, collection period, category coverage, missing-lender count, publication threshold, and voluntary non-representative limitation. No lender-level finding is currently published. Current evidence limit There is no supportable FairRate lender ranking, national renewal-offer average, or headline Offer Index finding as of September 2, 2026. Reporters should not infer one from the publication threshold, the public benchmark, or illustrative examples. Independence FairRate Canada is not a lender, mortgage broker, mortgage agent, brokerage, rate marketplace, law firm, financial advisor, or mortgage underwriter. It does not arrange mortgages, take applications, approve credit, negotiate with lenders, earn lender referral commissions, or sell mortgage inquiries.
